cPanel Fantastico Mambo Install Error - 2004/12/04 00:02 I have found a bug when trying to install mambo cms using fantastico for
another client. The bug is relatively easy to fix though. I am
providing the detailed steps to install it correctly below along with an
explanation of the bugs. If you need further assistance or do not feel comfortable in following these directions, please submit a trouble ticket to our support department and request a Mambo installation.

These are the steps necessary to install mambo to get around the bug.

First, download the latest version of mambo from this link to your computer -
http://www.mamboportal.com (as of the time of this article, it should be version 4.5.1a with the latest bug fixes). I chose this web site because it does not require a user name / password to download the files. You might want to bookmark the web site
http://www.mamboportal.com

Second, go ahead and use fantastico to install mambo by going to
http://www.your_domain_name:2082 and logging into cpanel.

Third, Click on the Fantastico icon, select Mambo under Content Management and
follow the installation steps.

Fourth, after the installation is completed, use an ftp manager by going
to ftp.your_domain_name.com and log in with your user name and password for the account.
Download your curent configuration.php file to your local computer. If you
installed mambo into the root folder of your web site, the configuration file is in public_html. (rename it to configuration-old.txt after you download it so you can open it up with a text editor - required later in step 8)

Fifth, extract the contents of the downloaded mambo version to a folder on your computer.

Sixth - upload all the files from the folder in step 4 using ftp to the same folder on the server that you installed mambo to using the fantastico installer, over-writing all existing files.

Seven - visit the web site directory of wherever you installed mambo using your web browser,
i.e. http://www.your_domain_name.com or whichever directory you installed
mambo to in the above second step, i.e. http://www.your_domain_name.com/installed_directory

Eight - follow the steps provided for installing mambo again in your web
browser Make rue you select the drop all existing db table entries. Use the
information from the configuration-old.txt file you downloaded to get
the correct db user name, db password, etc.

Nine - once installation is completed, you must remove the installation
directory by deleting it off the server with your ftp client. Then you
may now log into the administration panel
http://www.your_domain_name.com/administrator/ and everything will
work correctly. (the admin link is assuming you installed mambo to the
root directory on the server, otherwise, you will need to place the
correct directory before administrator in the link above)

The reason I had you use fantastico to initially install mambo is
because it creates the correct database user name and password along
with the correct permissions, so that you don't have to manually create
a database using phpmyadmin.
