Page 1 of 5 The Zen of Better Search Engine Placement
I've written this tutorial for improving search engine placement and position ratings to help you promote your web site and increase traffic and visibility to your web site. We want all of our clients to be successful, whether they have a small personal web site for other family members and friends to visit, or a small business web site that has been set up for local and regional customers, or a large corporation with multiple offices across the globe, or even if you are an entrepreneur targeting the world with your new product or service.
All the information contained in this article was obtained from years of research on higher search engine placement for both myself and my clients and customers. I also regularly participate in forums for search engine placement information and some of the tips were gleaned from them, or newsgroups and mailing lists that I subscribe to. One of the best resources for web designers and web masters is the Search Engines Forums. This article is meant as an overview of my own personal experiences and those of others, resulting from the fact that the question of getting better search rankings or placements is one of the most often asked questions by customers and clients alike. Although this article should not be your only resource for search engine optimizations (SEO).
Getting higher search engine placement is not simply having a web site visible on the internet. You have to use many different techniques to outsmart the competition, and many different techniques for the hundreds of different search engines that exist. We will cover some of these techniques and ways to accelerate your search engine placement to the top.
Preliminary web site decisionsOne of the first decisions you need to make when you are designing a web site is who is your target audience? Do not make the mistake of just assuming people will come or be able to find your web site because you are offering some really neat item that hundreds, or thousands, or maybe even millions of other web sites are also offering. Also, do not assume that just because you might be a small business with limited or no marketing budget that you can not obtain better rankings than a large corporation who is spending tens of thousands of dollars each year on purchased search engine placement.
Next we will discuss your target audience and the not so simple task of deciding on a domain name. |
